Strong alongside the green: Audi golf commitment in 2010

The Audi quattro Cup classic starts to its 20th season
Audi will again be presenting sponsor of Ladies German Open
Partnership with German Golf Association to be continued

The 2010 Audi golf season will be dominated by the anniversary of the Audi quattro Cup in which golfers from all over the world have been competing for as many as 20 years now. In addition, the company with the Four Rings will again support amateur golf in various ways as well as top-class international tournaments.

Happy birthday, Audi quattro Cup: the tournament series staged around the world has evolved into one of the most popular events for amateur golfers and will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year. Its popularity is unbroken; in 2009 the Cup saw one of its most successful years ever: 82,000 participants from 47 nations played in 730 tournaments for the chance to move up into the finals in Sydney, Australia. That the winners came from Thailand and South Africa underscores the Cup’s international character.

Since its inception a total of 1,056,000 amateur golfers have participated in the series. The season opener in Germany is right around the corner: at the invitation of regional Audi partners qualification tournaments as “foursomes with selection drive” will be held from April to September. The winners qualify for the German finals to be held at the Frankfurt Golf Club from September 6 to 10 where the players will compete for the chance to participate in the world finale. The representatives of the nations will meet for the showdown from October 8 to 12 at the Pevero Golf Club in Sardinia.

The Audi Ladies Cup is the Audi quattro Cup’s counterpart for female amateurs. Each season the series which has been staged since 1995 is played at some 120 German golf clubs and held as an annual eclectic at the invitation of regional Audi partners. In addition, the club winners will participate in the drawing of a ProAm slot at the UniCredit Ladies German Open presented by Audi 2010.

From May 13 to 16, 2010 Audi will again play a part in international world-class golf. The company will again be presenting sponsor and official vehicle partner for the third edition of the UniCredit Ladies German Open held on the outskirts of Munich. After just two events the tournament has acquired an outstanding reputation and has become part of the calendar of the golf pros of the Ladies European Tour (LET). At Golfpark Gut Häusern the ladies will not only be competing for a new record pot of prize money in the amount of 330,000 euros but also for special incentives provided by the four Rings: the winner of the tournament will receive an Audi A5 Cabriolet. And the golfer who manages a hole-in-one at Hole 15 will have an Audi R8 Spyder made available to her by Audi. In addition, Audi will equip the shuttle fleet with 25 vehicles and will also supply Audi A3 Cabriolets to selected players during the week of the tournament. The Four Rings will be displayed around the course as part of the tournament logo and, in addition, the Audi Terminal as the meeting place for active players and spectators will complement AUDI AG’s commitment as the presenting sponsor.

In 2010 Audi will continue pursuing an ambitious aim: Germany desires to play host to the world’s most prestigious golf tournament, the 2018 Ryder Cup, for the first time since its inaugural event in 1927. Audi supports the bid by the RC Deutschland GmbH with the facility of the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds in Neuburg an der Donau (Bavaria) and thus again makes a clear commitment to the region. In addition to Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, the Netherlands and Sweden have submitted bids to host the event. The decision of the venue will be made during the course of 2011.

The partnership with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung Business Golf Cup” will be part of this season again as well. For six years Audi has been presenting this popular German tournament series which is not only regarded as a sporting competition but also as an ideal opportunity to intensify existing business relations and establish new ones. 15 one-day tournaments are staged in teams of four according to the Ryder Cup playing mode at which team spirit and tactical skills are equally important. The season will start on May 4, 2010 at the Golfclub Riedhof on the outskirts of Munich. Further information is also available on the internet at www.businessgolfcup.de.
